Embarking on your Albion Online journey but not sure where to begin? This blog post will guide you through the essentials of the game, ensuring a smooth start and setting you on the path to becoming an accomplished player.
Post-Tutorial: First Steps in Albion
1. Gain Fame
After completing the tutorial, your primary goal is to gain Fame, which functions like experience points. As you unlock more gear, you’ll gain access to more abilities. Combat Fame is earned by defeating mobs. Check your progress by opening the Destiny board and selecting the skill you’re developing.
2. Expeditions and Dungeons
Visit the Expedition Master near the center of any starting town, and look for the big glowing blue portal. Expeditions offer a convenient way to access quick challenges and plenty of combat Fame. For a greater challenge, seek out a random solo dungeon in the wilderness, where you’ll earn more silver and loot than in an Expedition.
3. Tier 3 and 4 Gear
After completing one or two dungeons or expeditions, you’ll unlock tier 3 or even tier 4 weapons and armor. Additionally, you’ll have some silver to spend to equip yourself in new gear.
4. Journeyman Adventurer
Reaching Journeyman Adventurer allows you to equip riding horses and transport oxen. Head to the market to search for the equipment or mount you need.
Gathering Resources and Crafting
Buy a bag and some tier 2 gathering tools from the market and head out into the surrounding wilderness to gather resources. The five biomes in Albion have different resources:
- Forests: Wood
- Mountains: Ore
- Swamps: Fiber
- Steppes: Hide animals
- Highlands: Stone
Each biome also has two other types of resources, though in smaller quantities.
Resources can be refined into materials and used to craft weapons and armor. However, unless you enjoy gathering and crafting, simply buy your gear from the marketplace and let other players do the hard work for you.
Joining a Guild
Joining a guild is an important step in your Albion Online journey. It provides friends, allies, and access to a guild island or Hideouts in the wilderness. Use the Guild Finder to search for guilds based on language or specific details.
Equipping Tier 4 Gear and Locating Major Cities
Once you have tier 4 weapons and armor, locate your nearest major city on the world map (Bridgewatch, Fort Sterling, Lymhurst, Martlock, or Thetford). Head to the city to begin the next chapter in your adventure.
PvP Combat and Survival Tips
Albion Online features player-versus-player (PvP) combat. The color of the zone on the world map or mini-map indicates the consequences of PvP combat. Here’s what you need to know:
- Blue zones: You cannot be killed or looted.
- Yellow zones: You can be attacked but not killed or looted (only knocked down).
- Red and black zones (PvP zones): You can be killed and lose items, or kill enemies and take their loot.
Keep in mind that you will never lose your hard-earned silver or gold if killed or knocked down. You can learn more about the different zones in Albion Online here
Tips for surviving PvP situations
- Watch for hostile players (red or orange nametags).
- Stay near your mount for a quick escape.
- Avoid carrying too much weight, as it slows you down.
- Choose abilities (especially on boots) that allow for a quick escape.
- In red zones, check the mini-map for the number of hostile players and avoid large groups.
- Skulls on the mini-map indicate recent player deaths. Avoid these areas if you want to stay out of trouble.
- If attacked, consider not fighting back to escape quicker.
- Lastly, always follow the golden rule: don’t venture into PvP zones with items you can’t afford to lose.
Establishing Yourself in a Major City
Settling in one of the five major cities is an excellent starting point. Here, you’ll have access to various content and opportunities:
- Enlist in your city’s faction to fight against other royal cities and earn rewards.
- Fight in the arena or the crystal arena without risking item loss, or join the prestigious full-loot Crystal League.
- Learn a trade skill, refine raw materials, or craft powerful weapons and armor.
- Become a transport merchant and move valuable items to more profitable destinations.
- Buy a player island to build houses, farm crops, and raise animals.
- Venture outside the city’s walls to tackle increasingly difficult dungeons, gather resources, or fish in the rivers, lakes, and oceans.
With no classes in Albion Online, you can freely combine gear to find your ideal build. Delve into corrupted dungeons and Hellgates for a mix of PvE and PvP content, or explore the Mists and the lost city of Brecilien. The Roads of Avalon and the massive continent of the Outlands also await, offering the utmost risk and reward.
Make a name for yourself and your guild by competing in guild seasons, conquering territories, and capturing castles. Now that you’re equipped with this knowledge, go forth and explore the world, make friends, and overcome foes. In Albion Online, your adventures are entirely up to you. Enjoy your journey!
